Job Description

As a member of our team, you will work on a variety of assignments for the Civil Engineering Department. Jp2g provides opportunities to work on a wide variety of projects, with emphasis on federal, municipal, and institutional clients. Focus of civil work includes design reports, parking lot layout and design, sanitary and storm sewer design, site grading and drainage, subdivision and site servicing, and stormwater management.

Role and Responsibilities

The role and responsibilities for the Junior Civil Engineering Technologist include, but are not limited to, the following. Employees may perform other related duties as negotiated to meet Jp2g’s ongoing needs.

Technical Skills

  • Work under the direct supervision of senior technologist, project manager or civil engineer
  • Complete topographical surveys
  • Perform construction site inspections and visits including completing Field Observation Reports and site diary entries
  • Complete quantity measurements for preparation of payment certifications
  • Daily reporting and participation in construction meetings
  • Completion of construction as-builts
  • Liaison with local residents affected by construction projects
  • Review shop drawings during construction
  • Assist civil engineer in the design of storm and sanitary sewers, culverts, subdivision and/or site plans
  • Assist civil engineer with project execution, designs, budget estimates/cost estimating, and coordination
  • Adhere to Jp2g’s AutoCAD standards in preparing CAD drawings from sketches, mark-ups, and/or design
  • Upon completion, verify CAD drawings against sketches to ensure accuracy of work
  • Assist with preparation of technical specifications
  • Coordinating sub-consultant work
  • Review status of the project with municipal staff members
  • Maintain familiarity with current techniques, codes, and standards; sustain and improve technical skills

Teamwork

  • Work with a team of project managers, engineers, and technologists
  • Attend co-ordination meetings with design team
  • Ensure proper coordination of documents with the other design disciplines
  • Coordinate with industry, other disciplines, and clients
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, other consultants, and key stakeholders to ensure projects run smoothly and to resolve concerns promptly and efficiently
  • Share expertise with colleagues and other offices

Workload Management

  • Manage project tasks within assigned time and budget constraints
  • Complete projects independently when required

Minimum Qualifications

  • 0+ years of professional experience
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology
  • Eligible for certification with OACETT
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Eligible to seek security clearances
  • ISO 9001:2015 Fundamental training (provided by Jp2g)

Qualifications

  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Comfortable working independently in both the office and on-site
  • Ability to work in a complex and fast-paced team environment, dealing with multiple projects and clients
  • Sound communication skills (oral and written)
  • Strong sense of initiative and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Strong attention to details without losing sight of big picture
  • Working knowledge of Office 365
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Professional, enthusiastic, and hard-working attitude
  • Experience using AutoCAD / Civil3D
  • Reliable vehicle access is required
