Job Description
As a member of our professional team, you will be responsible for a variety of assignments for the Building Services Department. With Jp2g, you will have opportunities to work on a wide variety of projects, with emphasis on federal, commercial, and institutional clients. The focus of Jp2g’s electrical work includes new building, renovation, restoration and adaptive renewal, investigations, and reports.
Role and Responsibilities
These roles and responsibilities are not intended to be all inclusive. Employees may perform other related duties as negotiated to meet the ongoing needs of Jp2g.
Technical Skills
- Work with the Department Manager to develop engineering concepts, concept reports, and construction budgets
- Prepare CAD drawings & Revit models from sketches and mark-ups; design and coordinate work with other disciplines
- Prepare electrical studies using ETAP
- Follow Level of Development (LOD) progression to suit client requirements
- Provide input into the development of Jp2g’s Revit and CAD standards
- Perform electrical site investigations and surveys
- Design lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, communication, public address, intercom, lightning protection and grounding systems
- Develop electrical concept reports, condition assessment reports and construction budgets
- Develop electrical designs for building systems including drawings and specifications
- Review codes, standards and regulations and obtain preliminary approvals where appropriate
- Represent the electrical portion of a project during the contract administration stage and carry out shop drawing reviews, prepare site instructions and CCNs, review progress draws, etc.
- Perform site inspections during construction and prepare field observation reports
Teamwork
- Work with a team of project managers, engineers, and technologists
- Coordinate with industry, clients and other disciplines including architects, cost consultants and others
- Participate in meetings with clients and other consultants
- Coordinate electrical systems installation requirements with other design disciplines
- Build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, other consultants, and key stakeholders to ensure that projects run smoothly and to resolve concerns promptly and efficiently
Project Management
- Manage project tasks within assigned time and budget constraints
- Ability to complete projects independently when required
- Display initiative and resourcefulness when preparing designs and resolving project issues
- Prepare fee proposals
- Ensure proper coordination of documents with the other design disciplines
- Display initiative and resourcefulness in the performance of tasks

- Maintain existing business and develop new business opportunities
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in consulting or construction industry
- Licensed Professional Engineer or eligible for P.Eng. in the Province of Ontario
- Eligible to seek security clearances
- Valid driver’s license
- ISO 9001:2015 Fundamental training (provided by Jp2g)
Qualifications
- Working experience in the electrical consulting / contracting / construction sector
- Strong understanding of OBC, NBC, OESC, CEC and CSA codes and standards
- Ability to work in a complex and fast-paced team environment, dealing with multiple projects and clients
- Sound English language communication skills (oral and written)
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Working knowledge of MS Office
- Experience with ETAP and performing electrical studies or willing to develop expertise with this tool
- Familiar with AutoCAD and NMS specifications
- Familiarity with Revit is considered an asset
- Strong sense of initiative and ability to prioritize tasks
- Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Strong desire to learn and for advancement and professional development
